Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by another journal. Any relevant explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor.
  • The submission files are provided in the formats specified in the Author Guidelines, and all required files have been uploaded.
  • The manuscript complies with the structure, formatting, stylistic, and bibliographic requirements described in the Author Guidelines.
  • The manuscript has been prepared for double-blind peer review. Authors’ names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and other identifying information have been removed from the main document and its file properties.
  • The title, abstract, keywords, affiliations, tables, figures, references, and submission metadata have been checked for accuracy and consistency.
  • The manuscript is written in clear, grammatically correct, and publication-ready English. Authors understand that manuscripts requiring extensive language correction may be returned before peer review or during the editorial process.
  • All references follow the journal’s required APA style. Every in-text citation has a corresponding reference-list entry, and every reference-list entry is cited in the manuscript. DOI links have been provided where available.
  • An ethics approval statement has been included where applicable, identifying the approving committee or institutional review board and the approval or reference number. If ethics approval was not required, the manuscript provides an appropriate statement or justification.
  • An informed consent statement, including parental or guardian consent and participant assent where applicable, has been included for research involving human participants.
  • A funding statement has been included, identifying all sources of financial support and grant numbers where applicable, or stating that the research received no external funding.
  • A conflicts of interest statement has been included. All financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could be perceived as influencing the work have been disclosed.
  • A Data Availability Statement has been included, specifying where and under what conditions the supporting data may be accessed, or explaining why the data cannot be made available.
  • An Author Contributions statement has been included, preferably following the CRediT Contributor Roles Taxonomy. All listed authors meet the journal’s authorship requirements and have approved the submitted version.
  • A valid ORCID iD has been provided for each author through the submission system.
  • All necessary permissions have been obtained for previously published or copyrighted material, including figures, tables, instruments, and substantial text extracts, and evidence of permission has been uploaded where required.

Author Guidelines

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Scientific Journal of Sport and Performance (SJSP) is an international peer-reviewed journal published exclusively in English. The journal publishes original research related to Performance Analysis of Sport and Physical Conditioning, Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sport Medicine, Sport History, Reviews, and other areas directly related to physical activity, sport, exercise science, and human performance.

All contributions must be original and directly related to sport, physical activity, exercise science, or their educational, social, physiological, psychological, historical, or applied dimensions. All submissions undergo a double-blind peer-review process and are evaluated on the basis of scientific quality, methodological rigour, originality, relevance, clarity, and contribution to knowledge. Final publication decisions are made exclusively by the Editorial Board.

Submissions are accepted only through the journal's online submission system.

GUIDELINES FOR PAPERS

Authors must complete all information requested in the online submission forms and upload the files described below.

TITLE PAGE FILE

A Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) file containing the following information:

Title of the paper

The title must be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the content of the manuscript. Abbreviations and quotation marks should be avoided whenever possible.

Short title (running head)

A shortened version of the title suitable for page headings.

Authors and affiliations

Full names of all authors, academic or professional titles, institutional affiliations (Faculty, Department, Research Centre, etc.), city, and country.

Institutional names must be provided in English.

A valid ORCID iD is required for all authors and must be provided during submission.

Corresponding author

Name, full postal address, e-mail address, and telephone number of the author responsible for correspondence.

Abstract

The abstract must be written as a single paragraph with a maximum length of 250 words and should briefly present the purpose, methods, main results, and conclusions of the study.

Keywords

Provide 3-6 keywords that are not included in the title. Keywords should be descriptive and facilitate indexing and retrieval.

Note: The Title Page File will not be provided to reviewers.

AUTHOR DECLARATION FILE

A Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) file signed by the corresponding author certifying that:

  • all authors meet authorship criteria;
  • all authors have contributed substantially to the work;
  • all authors have approved the submitted version;
  • the manuscript is original;
  • the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere;
  • all ethical requirements have been fulfilled;
  • all funding sources and conflicts of interest have been disclosed;
  • all authors agree to the submission and potential publication of the manuscript in SJSP.

Note: This file will not be provided to reviewers.

MAIN DOCUMENT FILE

The manuscript must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format or compatible format.

The document should be double-spaced, use 2 cm margins throughout, and preferably Times New Roman 12-point font.

All manuscripts must be written in English.

LANGUAGE QUALITY REQUIREMENTS

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are written in clear, grammatically correct, publication-ready English.

Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to obtain professional language editing or review by a proficient English speaker prior to submission.

Manuscripts that require substantial language correction may be returned to authors before peer review or during the revision process.

Prior to publication, all accepted manuscripts undergo a final editorial quality assessment, including verification of:

  • English language quality;
  • title, abstract, and keywords;
  • author affiliations and metadata;
  • references and DOI accuracy;
  • tables and figures;
  • ethical and transparency declarations;
  • consistency of the manuscript and submission records.

MAIN BODY

Introduction

The Introduction should be understandable to a broad scientific readership. It should clearly state the purpose of the study, provide sufficient background, and explain the scientific relevance of the work without providing an exhaustive literature review.

Materials and Methods

This section must provide sufficient detail to allow replication of the study.

Recommended subsections include:

Participants

Describe the sample, recruitment procedures, and relevant demographic characteristics.

Measures

Describe all questionnaires, tests, instruments, observations, or equipment used, including information concerning validity and reliability whenever available.

Procedures

Provide a complete description of all procedures, interventions, protocols, testing conditions, and data collection methods.

Research involving human participants, personal data, biological samples, or animals must comply with applicable ethical standards and institutional regulations. Ethics approval procedures and informed consent processes must be clearly reported.

Statistical Analysis

Describe all statistical procedures, software, significance levels, effect size calculations, confidence intervals, and other analytical methods used.

Results

Results should be presented clearly and precisely without interpretation. Measurements should follow the International System of Units (SI).

Discussion

The Discussion should focus on the interpretation of the findings, their relationship to previous research, their practical implications, strengths, limitations, and future directions.

Conclusions

Conclusions should reflect the principal findings of the study and remain consistent with the evidence presented.

TRANSPARENCY STATEMENTS

All manuscripts must include the following declarations immediately before the References section.

Ethics Approval

Research involving human participants, personal data, human biological material, or animals must include a statement identifying the approving ethics committee or institutional review board and approval number where applicable.

If ethical approval was not required, an appropriate justification must be provided.

Informed Consent

Authors must indicate whether informed consent was obtained from participants.

If not applicable, this should be explicitly stated.

Funding

All sources of funding, grants, contracts, and institutional support must be disclosed.

If no external funding was received, authors should state:

This research received no external funding.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could potentially influence the work.

If no conflicts exist, authors should state:

The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Data Availability Statement

All manuscripts must include a statement describing the availability of the data supporting the study findings.

Data may be:

  • publicly available;
  • available upon reasonable request;
  • restricted for ethical or legal reasons;
  • not applicable.

Author Contributions

SJSP recommends the use of the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) framework.

Authors should specify individual contributions to the research and manuscript preparation.

REFERENCES

References must follow the latest edition of APA Style (7th Edition).

Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • all citations appearing in the text are included in the reference list;
  • all references listed are cited in the text;
  • DOI identifiers are included whenever available;
  • bibliographic information is complete and accurate.

TABLES

Tables should be submitted as separate editable files whenever possible.

Each table must include a title and any necessary explanatory notes.

FIGURES

Figures should be submitted as separate high-quality files.

Authors should ensure that all figures are suitable for publication and that any permissions required have been obtained.

REPORTING GUIDELINES

Authors are encouraged to follow internationally recognised reporting standards appropriate to their study design, including:

  • CONSORT for randomized controlled trials;
  • STROBE for observational studies;
  • PRISMA for systematic reviews and meta-analyses;
  • PRISMA-ScR for scoping reviews;
  • CARE for case reports;
  • COREQ or SRQR for qualitative research.

ENSURING A BLIND PEER REVIEW

To preserve the integrity of the double-blind peer-review process, authors must remove all identifying information from the main manuscript file.

Author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, and self-identifying references should not appear in the manuscript submitted for review.

In Microsoft Office documents, authors should also remove identifying metadata from file properties before submission.
